**This assignment is inspired by ideas presented in Sydney Walker's (2001) book, Teaching Meaning in Artmaking. The class discussed several artworks by contemporary artists, which included food as subject matter, to go deeper into how artists use big ideas. Why was the particular food included in the composition, and how does the artist use it to communicate a bigger idea? We also discussed Duncum's (2013), "Teaching the elements of realistic-style pictures." This guided awareness in choice-making in digitally constructing the images.
Food as a Big Idea in Art
Using a digital camera or smartphone, construct an image that is personally meaningful and significant to you, related to food as a big idea in art. You may want to take multiple pictures of the object from different angles and pick the image that you consider to be the best one. You can choose to crop or manipulate the picture in some way if you wish, but this is not required.
